Nekoliko reči o autoru / About author

About author

Pavle Radin, dipl.ing. of agriculture, borne 1959. in Zrenjanin, Serbia. He had graduated at Faculty of Agriculture, University of Belgrade, department of crop science. For more than 25 years he has been working in laboratory for seed quality control at “Zavod Topcider, Jugoinspekt – Beograd” in Belgrade. It was founded in 1898. by Ministry of National Economy of Kingdom of Serbia, under name of Agricultural and Chemical Research Station. Since then it has been classifying and collecting seed specimens of different species of weed, cultural and forest plants. Continues labor on conservation, collecting and classification of new seed species has resulted in today’s collection, which comprises of close to thousand different seed species.

Early on photography has become his hobby. During his time at University, while making pictures for faculty needs, macro photography has won him over.

Combination of his hobby and regular job led him to idea to create this web site, where the pictures of different seeds will be posted. The smaller part of the seeds originates from his private collection and bigger part from the “Zavod Topcider” collection. His wish is to publish over thousand photographs of different seeds. Future work on digitalization of this collection will be challenging, as it will include acquiring new seed specimens and replacement of some old photographs with new ones.

Nearly 200 species of seeds are originating from the collection of seeds which is located within the natural history collections of the National Museum of Zrenjanin. This collection has been prepared by G.Bredemann - O.Nieser from the National Institute of Applied Botany, Hamburg. Thanks to the great understanding and generous help of people from the National Museum of Zrenjanin, the collection supplements this site and makes it more diverse and richer.

Another part of the site is devoted to photographs of seedlings of certain cultivated plants. Although there are written rules about what one seedling seems normal and what is abnormal, scenic views can greatly facilitate the work on the determination of germination. In addition to images of normal seedlings, special attention was given to examples of various developmental abnormalities at the seedling because that is what usually leads to different interpretations of the correctness of seedlings.

All photographs on this web site are originals. Part of the pictures we taken with Olympus C-5000 Zoom camera, while most pictures were made with Canon EOS Rebel XS camera and macro objective EF-S 60mm f/2,8 macro USM.
